Super Droop
John Bywaters (Twilights Bassist): “We tried to bring comedy into the act as much as possible, without interfering with the flow of the show – just to provide a bit of comic relief to make the people see we didn’t take ourselves too seriously. We were in Brisbane at a house where we were staying between performances and Glenn walked past the doorway one night in his red ski pyjamas and a pillow stuffed up it. Somebody said “You look like a fat Superman”, and that sparked it… we were playing every sunday night in Melbourne at a place called Opus and when you’re playing in a regular gigm you’re going to run out of material really quickly, sowe used to write these little skits. We tried to do things that other bands weren’t doing. We even had a six man human pyramid on stage one night, with Terry on the top. We also did a boxer and I was interviewing a boxer. I would say: “What do you do when you get in the ring.” And the answer was”I bleed.” Pure comedy, that’s all. Actually, Glenn was a natural sort of comedian and I’m surprised he’s not following that line now.”
Pastoral Symphony
One-off “supergroup” project, executive-produced by Jimmy Stewart, produced by Geoffrey Edelsten (yep, the notorious entrepreneurial doctor). A substantial hit upon its initial release, it was re-released in barely noticeable US remix form in 1977. Group comprised full Twilights lineup, augmented by Terry Walker (The Strangers) on lead vocals, Ronnie Charles (The Groop); backup vocals; and The Johnny Hawker Orchestra.
