Lonesome Loser Reaches #1

Lonesome Loser Reaches #1

David Briggs: Sometimes in Australia folks don’t really get how big the Little River Band were in the USA, and what a groundbreaking band they were for all the Australian bands who broke internationally after the hard yards the LRB put in touring the USA.This chart from Radio & Records, US trade publication shows a tune I wrote at number1..that is..the most played song on American radio for 1 month back in August 1979. We recorded the demo in Nashville..myself ,Derek Pellicci, Glenn Shorrock, with Ern Rose Rose on the board at Quadrophonics Studio Nashville,(owned by the other David Briggs..where Doby Gray recorded Drift Away) with Henry Strezlecki (Chet Atkins Bass Player) on the bass, and local Nashville session Lady “BJ” on the piano..I wish I could recall her full name…Graeham , Beeb, and George were at Muscle Shoals at the time recording their song demos..The final recording of the Lonesome Loser featured self on the guitar,Clive Harrison on the Bass,Peter Sullivan on piano, Derek Pellicci on the drums and Glenn Shorrock on the vocals..despite what I have seen written in other places. Graeham and Beeb overdubbed their guitar parts..Glenn, Graeham and Beeb did the sensational LRB vocal harmonies..produced by John Boylan, Engineered by Ern Rose, although after the bandtrack I worked with Jim Barton in Studio 2 at AAV to get much of the big guitar sounds and the seriously big solo sounds…Kudos to all of the above, and of course Glenn Wheatley, and all the Capitol Records team who worked so hard on all our releases. The song went on to be nominated in the Grammys of 1979..ultimately won by the Doobie Brothers for the incredible song..What a Fool Believes..but hey..I don’t feel bad..
